Professions and DualSpec
With DualSpec finally out there, profession boni have shifted a little bit. You might still have the most advantage on your main spec, but what about those secondary talents?
As a warrior tank I chose enchanting / blacksmithing as professions. And while blacksmithing really isn’t a good thing to make much cash, I fell in deep love with my extra sockets. Mind the secondary spec, I say. While in my opinion pretty much all professions are viable and the advantages of the interesting ones are only of minor difference, dual spec kind of gives some of them a clear heads-up.
Praise blacksmithing for it’s extra sockets, for those will always give you the most kick for whatever you want to spec. Not so much for enchanting, which offers additional ring-enchants (one of each for caster, melee, tank) – yet they are +ap, thus not scaling as nicely as strength would. I am thinking of probably dropping enchanting and getting JC instead these days. First of all, JC has real money-making opportunities and second, it’s a full-win thing for every spec, too, with three epic gems.
After all I think Jewelcrafting + Blacksmithing is now, finally, undoubtedly, the strongest combination of professions. Think: Three extra sockets + three prismatic uber-gems = guaranteed meta-gem bonus and awesome flexibility. Plus, the upgrades are not “static”, you can make them fit for whatever spec or set you want to cater to.
I don’t regret having picked enchanting, it made me a decent amount of cash while leveling. Yet, it’s probably time to let go, sweet enchanting friend, and pick up your hotter sister JC.

I’m a horrible tank and I didn’t level up professions to min/max. With that said, I like the utility of making consumables for my guild. If I died during a boss, not once did I think, “Oh man, if I had blacksmithing and jewelcrafting, I probably wouldn’t've died!”
With that said, my second spec is also protection. :P
