On Raid Design: A small retrospective from an ever-casual raider

The so-called “endgame” can be take on many a form. For some it’s raiding, for others it’s fishing on their level 37 toon, some collect pets and mounts, others max out reputations, reach for the gold limit or PvP the hell out of those arenas. In this series of posts I want to rank and then have a look at the raids I’ve experienced.

I’ll go straight out and start with something we all love: A list! Woo-hoo. Excited? Here it comes, my casual-raider’s-best-of:

  1. ?
  2. Zul’Gurub
  3. Molten Core
  4. Ulduar
  5. UBRS
  6. Ahn’Qiraj (20)
  7. Zul Aman
  8. Naxxramas (WotLK)

One general thing: I think those raids that you needed to get keyed for were cooler in the first place. You had to earn your way in, and that alone made the first step into the instance feel that more epic. When I went through the portal to Molten Core inside of BRD for the first time I was excited: This was a place you had to defeat other bosses to even be able to enter – just how cool is that?

Check back the next days, when I’ll be going through the list bottom-up, raid by raid.
