Tanking is dead

Nah, it’s not that bad. It’s fun, actually. Still it’s significantly easier. I hope that for the most part this is due to overequipment and level 80 talents available, because if it stays like it is right now every other guy will be able to tank. The new system takes some getting used to, there’s definitely no such thing as a rotation anymore and a lot more of watching what’s proccing not to miss too many free shield slams or heroic strikes.

Seriously, with just a first quick specc and a Glyph of Revenge it’s pretty much impossible to run out of rage. During usual fights the 2nd char on the threat-list (derived from the built-in aggro-tool with the simple & working ZThreatMeter) was at about 25% threat if I hit all those proccs, and not even a 1100dps shadowpriest who hadn’t skilled aggro reduce made it above 50%, ever. That’s how easy it is right now.

Oh, and if it wouldn’t have been for the warpsplinter-fight my name would be on top of the list – lf DD Prot Warrior, anyone?

I’m about to venture into the fray tonight myself if our server will stay up (Illidan, US). Word from the other MT is that he’s AOE tanking Heroic SP the entire time without any kind of special buffs or anything, pulling 1900 sustained TPS, & always with a full rage bar.

    Hrm.

My server has been having a number of issues too (Stormreaver US) last night we could have ventured in but latency spikes were in the 1300 range so I worked on add-ons and texted the revenge glyph with a macro. hoping to get into Kara tonight wiht my regular group and see wht happens.

The new talents are amazing and we are really in “God” mode until 80. Me and some guildies did a Heroic Ramps and Bot (4 manned) just as wuick as you can do them regular. I wanted to try out my AoE Tanking and wow I was pleased. My dps was a elemental shaman, arcane mage, and healer was a pally. We never CC’d anything, I pulled, thunderclap, shockwave, and with the sunder glyph, the aoe tanking was fun :) The revenge glyph is also a must have, free heroic strikes are awesome.

Indeed they are! I’m thinking of macroing Heroic Strike to SS + Dev. I had it up all the time anyways and low-rage-situations are just not happening. We do need more Macro-Conditions at that point …

/cast [active:Glyph of Revenge] Heroic Strike
    /cast Shield Slam

Kara did not go off as planned but I joined a pug Magtheridon’s Lair and Gruul’s Lair and it was ridiculously easy.

The comment that Tanking is dead was pretty close to true on Gruul. The mage tank pull before md’s were up and I picked up High King with a charge and massive shield slam. Brought him back to the closest wall and did the normal tank and spank. While that was going on some other crazy stuff was going on with the other adds but I could only hear the commotion in vent as I could not see in game but it sounded like everyone was running all over the place.

Then in Gruul, somone pulled early again and it took a couple of moments to get aggro settled on me and the OT but from there it was so easy. I did not even bother to get out of cave ins as the incoming damage was easily healed through.

I just barely hit 70 last night and i am looking forward to learning how to be a good tank… i only wished i could have made it before the patch so i could have gotten the skill used then.
Oh well. I intend to run a few things tonight… Maybe kara if someone can find it in there heard to take an under geared OT in with them. if not then ill just have to go grind for more gear.
Tanking with the new talents really isn’t hard though. just have to use common sense on When to aoe and when not to.
